§ 13-135. Definitions.

  • For the purposes of this article the following words shall have the meanings indicated unless their context clearly requires otherwise:

    Call box means a telephone or other communication device which is used for the sole purpose of summoning ground transportation.

    Charter bus means a vehicle with a seating capacity of more than twenty-eight (28) persons. Such vehicles shall be exempt from the provisions of this article.

    Cruising means the driving of a taxicab on the public streets and roads in unincorporated Osceola County in search of or soliciting prospective passengers for hire.

    Driver's certificate means the written permission granted by the county for a person to drive a taxicab, limousine or other such vehicle for hire within unincorporated Osceola County.

    Limousine or shuttle means a motor vehicle having a seating capacity of not less than five (5) nor more than twenty-eight (28) persons, receiving compensation on a per capita basis, and operating within unincorporated Osceola County.

    Luxury limousines, such as, by way of illustration and not limitation, Lincoln, Cadillac, and Mercedes Benz, shall be considered as limousines, except that luxury limousine fares are determined on the basis of either an hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly rental of the vehicle and the service of its chauffeur, or a combination of rental and mileage charge, with a minimum rental of one (1) hour.

    Manifest means a daily record prepared by a vehicle for hire driver of all trips made by such driver showing time and place of origin, destination, number of passengers and the amount of fare for each trip.

    Taxi meter means a meter, instrument or device attached to a taxicab which measures mechanically or electronically the distance driven and the waiting time upon which the fare is based.

    Taxicab means a motor vehicle having a factory designed seating capacity of not less than five (5) persons nor more than twenty-eight (28) persons engaged in the general transportation of persons for compensation based on the metered use of the vehicle without regard to the number of passengers carried and operating within unincorporated Osceola County.

    Vehicle for hire permit means the license, one (1) per vehicle, which is granted by the county for a person, corporation, or other entity to own and operate a vehicle for hire within unincorporated Osceola County pursuant to the provisions of this article.
