§ 2-41. Tuition refunds for employees completing off-duty education and training activities.
(a)
It is a county purpose to make fair and adequate provision for employee compensation, benefits, and incentives. The off-duty education and training activities of full-time county employees in courses of study, instruction or training which directly contribute to the improvement of skills or the enhancement of knowledge used in the performance of county duties by employees is of direct public benefit and should be encouraged by the county. The reimbursement in full or for any part thereof to employees by the county for tuition expenses actually paid by full-time employees in the successful completion of approved courses is a county purpose.
(b)
The board of county commissioners may budget county funds to pay for approved tuition refunds to employees and may by resolution establish a program to provide for the reimbursement of all or part of tuition expenses actually incurred by full-time county employees in the successful completion of such courses of study, instruction, or training as the board of county commissioners may from time to time determine to be in the best interests of the county. Employees of elected county officials shall be eligible to participate in any established tuition refund program upon the authorization and budgeting of funds for reimbursement to the general fund by those elected public officials who elect to include their employees in the program.
